Imperial March
Piece that uses only 4 harmonic links.
The two first belong to the key of G minor:
First: G minor. (i - Im)
Second: Eb major (bVI - bVI Major)
The third scapes the key by one note: Eb minor (b vi - bVIMinor)
Eb - (Gb) - Bb
The fourth is a way beyond the tonal-functional system: C#m (#iv - #IVminor)
Composition of a theme in two parts (A and B).
Harmony
For part A:
Uses two harmonic links at most. A main and a secondary.
Main: Gm
Secondary: Eb
The main harmonic link can be in major or minor tonality.
Use a third harmonic link may vary in quality, being major or minor, regardless the tonality of the first two.
Third Harmonic Link: Ebm
This way we exit tonal-functional harmony.
It should be emphasized that no more than three harmonic links are to be used for the first part or the musical synthesis will be lost in composition.
For part B:
Use one or two notes from the harmonic link and add a fourth harmonic link to achieve variety outside the piece's tonality.
Fourth harmonic link: C#m
Melody to be constructed for the theme:
For part A:
Make half of less of the melody with notes proper of the first two harmonic link's chord or scale.
Then, complete the melody with notes belonging the third harmonic link.
For part B:
Continue to construct the melody using the chord notes or scale of the fourth harmonic link.
